Ferguson Hut

Ferguson Hut is a four-bunk standard hut in Hāwea Conservation Park (Otago), run by the Department of Conservation. Use is first come, first served, with no standard bookings required.

Facilities include a pit latrine and an outhouse-style toilet disposal system, plus a fireplace and mattresses. Water is untreated, so plan on treating it before drinking.

Stays require a Standard Hut Ticket for each night, placed in the honesty box at the hut; alternatively, a Backcountry Hut Pass provides unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period. Fees to 30 June 2026 are $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4).
