Fern Hill

Loading map…

Fern Hill is a sport-climbing crag in the hills behind Squamish’s Smoke Bluffs, with 48 recorded routes. The wall is granite, generally vertical to gently overhanging, and favors athletic movement on plentiful handholds.

The route spread runs from 5.8 to 5.13a, with climbs measuring roughly 12–30 m and many in the 20–25 m range. The current route collection is predominantly sport climbing, while the area is also associated with trad climbing.

From the parking area, the approach takes about 5–10 minutes. Access follows the Mamquam Forest Service Road for 3.6 km, then Powerhouse Springs Road for 1.5 km; from the parking area, pass through the concrete barriers, climb the “The Farther Side” mountain-bike trail, and traverse the forest below the cliff.

Fern Hill receives east-facing conditions and is shaded after about 12:30 p.m.; the wall is also described as drying quickly. Mosquitoes can be severe at the base from spring through midsummer.
