Galaxy Buttress

Galaxy Buttress is a granite wall rising roughly 400 feet above the Cheakamus River in British Columbia. It combines moderate sport and trad multi-pitch climbing, with seven listed routes spanning approximately 5.8 to 5.10c.

The area includes the three-pitch sport route Star Chek at 5.9 and the five-pitch Indra’s Net at 5.9, alongside mixed and traditional options such as Beam Me Up, Scotty at 5.8 and Apollo 13 at 5.10d. Star Chek follows an exposed arete above the river and was the first multi-pitch route established at Cheakamus.

Approach from the large highway pullout on the west side, following the trail across talus into a narrow bedrock canyon, then crossing sandy talus to the base of Star Chek. The approach is commonly described as about 5–10 minutes from the pullout, although the longer route description gives 2.0 miles for the outing.

The principal climbing season is May through October. Use the maintained trail for both approach and exit rather than rappelling into the routes.
