Grub Street

Grub Street is a trad-climbing area beneath Stooges Slab in the Malamute, extending from below the first ledge down to the ground. The area has seven listed routes, ranging from 5.9 to 5.11c.

The route Grub Street is a 30 m, 5.11a trad climb. It follows a tips crack to the right of Cider Crack and finishes below Sodbuster. Its first ascent was made by Robin Barley and Peter Croft in 1978; Peter Croft and Tami Knight made the free first ascent that year.

Access follows the Malamute’s “rap in, climb out” system because the Canadian National rail right-of-way runs along the cliff base. Climbs beginning within 8 m of the tracks are closed.
