Haumingi Bush Hut

Haumingi Bush Hut is a private backcountry hut on the Owhaoko BD Trust Block in the Kaimanawa–Tararua region, used for hunting and fishing access. It’s a 4-bunk hut with wood fire and a gas/gas cooker setup, plus cookware and cutlery supplied for meals.

Use is by advance booking through a helicopter-based hunting-block operator; typical rules include a seasonal closure from 20 Dec to 1 March and 1 June to 30 Sept each year, and strict no night shooting / no use of spot lights, night-vision, infrared, or thermal imaging gear. Hut stay terms are aligned to the booking package (for example, there’s a minimum of two land-fee nights per booking), and parties have limits on certain deer-taking practices during the season (including rules about stags in velvet and spikers, and a cap on sika hinds per person).
