Maropea Forks Hut
Maropea Forks Hut is a Department of Conservation standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatu/Whanganui region). It’s a base for trampers, hunters, and fishers, and the hut site is also part of the native whio (blue duck) territory.
The hut has a woodstove fireplace and sleeping mats, with water drawn from a river. Use includes a pit latrine, and drinking water is untreated. Standard bookings aren’t required; you stay on a first come, first served basis with a Standard Hut Ticket placed in the honesty box. The hut was replaced in 2014, built with support from the New Zealand Defence Force and DOC.
