Heather Jock Hut

Heather Jock Hut is a three-bunk backcountry hut in the Whakaari Conservation Area (Otago), managed by the Department of Conservation. Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served.

The hut has drinking water labeled unsafe as a natural water source in the Whakaari area due to historic mining contamination (arsenic and heavy metals). Visitors should bring all the water they need. The hut has mattresses and toilet facilities with a pit latrine; no fireplace is provided.
