Helicopter Flat Hut

Helicopter Flat Hut is a standard 10-bunk backcountry hut in Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman). It’s run by the Department of Conservation (Te Papa Atawhai) in the Motueka area, and it uses a first-come, first-served system with no standard booking required; you arrange the stay by buying a Standard Hut Ticket for each night (or using a Backcountry Hut Pass).

The hut charges fees through 30 June 2026 (adult $10 per night, youth $5 per night, and free for children/infants 0–4); from 1 July 2026, new rates and updated sole-occupancy fees apply. Use includes sleeping on provided mattresses, and the hut has a fireplace plus a pit latrine toilet; there’s no drinking water provided, so bring your own.
