High Burn Hut
High Burn Hut is a backcountry hut operated from Hunter Valley Station near Lake Hawea, New Zealand. It’s set up for fishing and hiking trips, with a secluded base in a high-rainfall backcountry where road access depends on conditions.
The hut sleeps 4. Facilities listed include cutlery/crockery/pots, a gas BBQ, an open fireplace, and cold running water from a river; there’s also a long-drop toilet away from the hut. Linen or gas is not supplied at the backcountry huts.
Access requires a high-clearance 4-wheel drive with an experienced operator for off-road conditions; the road is not suitable for rental vehicles, and access is subject to weather. Booking is done by submitting a booking inquiry through the station, with a 50% deposit; it also states a minimum 2-night stay and that deposits are non-refundable if cancelled within 14 days. Firearms are not permitted, dogs are not permitted, and no open-air fires or candles are allowed due to fire risk.
