Karamea Bend Hut

Karamea Bend Hut is a standard 22-bunk backcountry hut in Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman area), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for straightforward hut stays—no standard bookings are required and use works on a first-come, first-served basis—sleeping up to 22 people at full capacity.

The hut has untreated drinking water, a fireplace, and mattresses. Toilets are pit latrines, and there is a fee: $10 per night for adults (18+) and $5 per night for youth (5–17), with children 0–4 free. For the stay, each night requires a Standard Hut Ticket placed in the honesty box (blue for adults, yellow for youth), or a Backcountry Hut Pass that allows unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for 12 months.
