Kay Creek Hut
Kay Creek Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Greenstone and Caples Conservation Areas (Otago, Queenstown/Wakatipu area). It’s reached via Kay Creek Track, which is an advanced tramping track starting at a junction between Mid Caples Hut and McKellar Hut on the Greenstone and Caples Track.
Expect significant windfall along the route to the hut, and plan for longer tramp times than you would on an open track. Use is free and bookings aren’t required; it’s first come, first served. The hut has a fireplace, drinking water is untreated, and there are toilets with pit-latrine disposal.
