Kennedy Memorial Hut

Kennedy Memorial Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Ruataniwha Conservation Park, managed by the Department of Conservation in the Canterbury region. It’s set up for first-come, first-served use with no standard bookings required, and it has a maximum of six bunks. The hut provides drinking water that is untreated, a fireplace, mattresses, and pit-latrine toilets with disposal to a pit latrine.

The DOC fee applies for stays until 30 June 2026 ($10 per night for adults 18+, $5 per night for youth ages 5–17, and free for children/infants 0–4). For access, you need to buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass), and you must get permission from Glen Lyon Station to walk or drive to the hut.
