Kerin Forks Hut

Kerin Forks Hut is a serviced 10-bunk backcountry hut in Mount Aspiring National Park (Otago), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s in the Wanaka/Makarora area and is set up for trampers using the hut network rather than short day stops.

Bookings aren’t required—use is first come, first served. A fee applies for stays up to 30 June 2026: adults (18+) $25 per night and children/youth (5–17) $12.50 per night (infants 0–4 are free). You need a sleeping bag, plus stove and fuel and cookware; bring toilet paper, a rubbish bag to pack out all rubbish (including food scraps), and a torch. There’s a pit latrine, plus a wood burner/fireplace; full huts are most common in peak season from December until after Easter, and you’re recommended to carry a tent or roll mat during that period.
