Kōhanga Atawhai - Manson Nicholls Hut
Kōhanga Atawhai – Manson Nicholls Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Lewis Pass Scenic Reserve (West Coast region). It sits on the edge of Lake Daniell and is set up for stays by families and school groups as well as trampers; the hut provides bunk accommodation in two bunkrooms and allows camping outside the hut.
The hut sleeps up to 20 people in bunk beds, with water provided via cold water from a rain-collection tank (and toilets are via a pit latrine). Bookings are required, and fees apply, with the hut ticket/hut pass system used for overnight and for camping at the hut. Facilities include a wood burner and dedicated fire pits at the hut; fires are not allowed outside those fire pits. The walk in is about 3 hours one way from the nearest road end on the Lake Daniell Track, starting at Marble Hill Campsite (about 5 km east of Springs Junction on SH7).
