Lake Emma Hut

Lake Emma Hut is a historic two-room musterers hut on the shore of Lake Emma in Hakatere Conservation Park. It’s a day-use heritage spot—overnight stays aren’t allowed—and it’s used for picnicking, fishing, and a quick break while traveling the Lake Emma to Lake Camp Track corridor.

The track provides a route link between Lake Emma and Lake Camp, and the hut is reached as part of that walk or tramp; there’s also weather-dependent 4WD access to the Lake Emma Hut area in summer. A vehicle gate at Lake Emma is locked over winter months to protect the track from wet conditions; it’s closed from the first weekend in May to the first weekend in November.
