Makarora Hut

Makarora Hut is a standard four-bunk backcountry hut in the Makarora area of Mount Aspiring National Park, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s first come, first served for occupancy, and you’ll need a Standard Hut Ticket to cover each night you stay (put the ticket in the honesty box at the hut).

The hut is a four-bunk shelter with mattresses, and it has a fireplace. Drinking water is not provided, but toilets are available as pit latrines. Approximate approach time from the nearest road end (via Makarora Valley Track from SH 6/Haast Highway) is 5–7 hours one way over about 10.5 km; the route is considered advanced.
