Masters Shelter
Masters Shelter is an open-air backcountry shelter in Ruahine Forest Park, used as a day-use stop or an emergency refuge on the Golden Crown Ridge track. The Golden Crown Ridge Track starts immediately behind the shelter, making it a convenient place to break a long approach or reposition onto the ridge.
From the road end, access is via Mangleton Road (reachable from Big Hill Road). From the shelter, a steep track runs down about 100 m to Matthews Stream, and the ridge climb after the shelter takes you around rocky knolls before continuing steeply upward through beech forest.
