McKellar Hut

McKellar Hut is a serviced backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Greenstone and Caples Conservation Areas (Otago), in the Queenstown/Wakatipu area. The hut provides 24 bunk places, has drinking water that is untreated, and includes toilets (flush disposal) plus a fireplace and mattresses for overnight use.

Bookings are required for stays in the hut. Fees are charged, with Backcountry Hut Passes valid for use from 1 May to 30 September; the passes are not accepted from 1 October to 30 April. Camping outside the hut is allowed, but campsite bookings are required; campers can use the hut water supply and toilets.
