Mid Caples Hut

Mid Caples Hut is a serviced backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Greenstone and Caples Conservation Areas (Otago, Queenstown/Wakatipu area). The hut sleeps 24 people and has 24 bunk beds; campers may also camp outside the hut, with campsite bookings required.

Bookings are required for stays in the hut. Fees apply (with adult, youth, and child/infant rates listed for both before and after 1 July 2026), and Backcountry Hut Passes are valid for use from 1 May to 30 September but not from 1 October to 30 April. Hut water is available but it is untreated; the hut has flush toilets, and there is a fireplace.
