Middle Gorge Hut

Middle Gorge Hut is a Department of Conservation standard six-bunk hut in the Godley Peaks Conservation Area, on the true left bank of the Mistake River near Lake Tekapo. It’s managed on a first-come, first-served basis (no standard bookings required).

Hut use is supported by a self-service ticket system: you buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut; or use a Backcountry Hut Pass that allows unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period. The hut has a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with pit-latrine disposal, and it does not provide drinking water. For walking access to Mistake Creek, permission is required from Godley Peaks Station; helicopters can fly directly to the hut and Mistake Creek (check the operator’s permissions and concessions).
