Mount Chek

Loading map…

Mount Chek is a sport-climbing crag in Cheakamus Canyon with five recorded routes. The area’s main objectives are beginner-friendly multi-pitch climbs continuing from the far end of Electric Avenue along the Monastery trail to the summit of Mount Chek.

Frontside 180 is a 10-pitch, 5.8 sport route of roughly 210–220 m on the mountain’s west ridge. It is predominantly slab climbing, with cracks, edges, and generally close bolt protection; the route can be climbed in linked pitches with a 70 m rope, while 12 quickdraws are recommended when skipping selected bolts is acceptable.

How Did I Get Here? provides another long option at 5.9 and about 220 m over eight pitches. It follows buttresses broadly parallel to Frontside 180 and combines bolted slab climbing with hiking between pitches, giving it a more broken-up and adventurous character.

For Frontside 180, finish by following cairns to Mount Chek’s summit, then take the east-side trail toward The Monastery and return to Electric Avenue. Avoid the loose cairned descent west over Rock of Ages because it can expose climbers below to rockfall; rappelling the route is also discouraged.
