Oturere Hut

Oturere Hut is a 26-bunk backcountry hut in Tongariro National Park, used as part of the Tongariro Northern Circuit (Tūrangi/Taupō area). It’s staffed by resident wardens outside the Great Walks season and has gas cookers during the Great Walks season; altitude is 1360 m.

Use works on a seasonal booking system. From 23 October to 30 April, Great Walks season applies and bookings are required. From 1 May to 22 October, bookings are not required—first come, first served. There are fees per person per night, with NZ and international rates, and backcountry hut passes can be used from 1 May to 24 October (not 25 October to 30 April). The hut has a kitchen, mattress bedding, a fireplace, toilets with pit latrine disposal, and untreated drinking water.
