Waipakihi Hut
Waipakihi Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Kaimanawa Forest Park, set in the Waipakihi River Valley in the Central North Island. It’s a 12-bunk hut used by hunters and trampers exploring the southern end of the Kaimanawa Forest Park, and it can be reached through the river valley or via the Urchin and Umukarikari tracks.
Inside, there’s a central kitchen area with a wood burner, table, sink, and internal water, plus a bunk room that sleeps six to either side. The hut uses pit latrines, and drinking water is untreated. No standard bookings are required; beds are first come, first served, and you handle fees by buying a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and placing it in the honesty box (or using a Backcountry Hut Pass). Adult standard hut tickets are $10 per night through 30 June 2026, with youth $5 per night (children/infants $0).
