Ribbonwood Hut

Ribbonwood Hut is a remote backcountry-style hut near Arthur’s Pass, set on Long Hill Station in the Southern Alps. Access is by vehicle up to a gravel driveway near the hut, which is about 25 minutes from Arthur’s Pass village and roughly 1.5 hours from Christchurch.

The hut is set up for stays for two adults (a queen-size bed with linen is provided). Inside you’ll find a kitchen with a gas oven and four-burner gas hobs, plus an ensuite and a woodburner for heat; it’s fully off-grid with solar power for lighting and the fridge. There’s an outdoor bath, but no outdoor fires are allowed.

The booking is handled by Canopy Camping Escapes through their online process, with rates typically in the NZ$325–$400 per night range. You’ll receive pre-arrival instructions by email about 5 days before your stay; check-in is from 3:00 pm and checkout is by 10:00 am.

For planning your stay, bring food and drink, toiletries, insect repellent/sunscreen, and warm clothing for cooler evenings. The property is a working farm, so you’re asked to stay within the accommodation area and follow farm safety rules (including not going into other buildings or touching farm machinery).
