Rockslide Hut

Loading map…

Rockslide Hut is a small backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke’s Bay region). It’s a basic four-bunk hut for walkers who are planning their own route—there’s no DOC track access and the hut sits largely isolated from other tracks and huts. The hut was built in 1960 by the New Zealand Forest Service and upgraded in 1990.

The hut is next to the Apias Stream at about 750 m and you’ll rely on stream water (no drinking water is provided). Bookings are not required; it’s first come, first served for the four bunks. There’s no fireplace, and toilets are available as a pit latrine. Use is free.
