Routeburn Falls Hut
Routeburn Falls Hut is a 48-bunk DOC Great Walk hut on the Routeburn Track in Mount Aspiring National Park (Otago). It has a communal sleeping layout with mattresses, a communal kitchen area with solar lighting, and solar lighting plus a communal dining space; cook with fuel and use the provided cooking facilities (fuel is available), while flush toilets and wash basins with cold running water are provided in the Great Walks season (no showers).
Bookings are required in the Great Walks season (1 November to 30 April). Outside the Great Walks season (1 May to 31 October), bookings are not required and the hut runs on a first-come, first-served basis, but facilities are reduced: you’ll need your own stove (gas is not provided), running water is turned off inside the hut, flush toilets are replaced with pit toilets, and water access is via the outside water tank (or the nearest water course if the tank is frozen). Water is untreated, and the hut operates 24/7; there are no conservation rangers based at the hut outside the Great Walks season.
