Routeburn Flats Hut
Routeburn Flats Hut is a 20-bunk Great Walk hut on the Routeburn Track in Mount Aspiring National Park, run by the Department of Conservation. The hut operates 24/7, with mattresses in a communal sleeping layout and cooking and dining spaces in the communal kitchen area.
In the Great Walks season (1 November–30 April), bookings are required; outside that period (1 May–31 October), bookings are not required and beds are first-come, first-served, though facilities are reduced. Heating uses fuel (with solar lighting in the kitchen area); water is available but is untreated, and toilets are flush (with a pit-toilet setup outside the Great Walk season). In the Great Walks season, fuel is available for cooking; outside it, you’ll need to bring your own stove. Fees are charged per person per night, with Backcountry Hut Passes accepted only from 1 May to 31 October.
