Ruahine Hut

Ruahine Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Ruahine Forest Park (Hawke’s Bay region). It’s a standard eight-bunk hut built in 1960 and set in a sheltered clearing at about 920 m altitude, with winter conditions that can include high rainfall and snow. The hut uses woodburner heat and a rainwater tank for water; it has a fireplace and an outhouse with pit latrine waste disposal.

Access is from No Man’s Road, via a private road through Big Hill Station. From the park boundary, travel about 5 km up No Man’s Road, then take a short 4WD track to the hut. Standard hut tickets are required even though bookings aren’t required—use the honesty box at the hut; a Standard Hut Ticket is for each night of stay (adult/youth ticket pricing applies) and an access permit obtained by ballot system is required.
