Swede Ridge Shelter

Swede Ridge Shelter is a basic backcountry shelter in Oregon’s Deschutes National Forest, used as a daytime warming and rest stop by cross-country skiers and snowshoers in the Swampy Lakes/Meissner trail area. It’s part of the Central Oregon Nordic Club’s shelter network of volunteer-maintained “forward bunkers,” built to give winter backcountry users a place to stop, warm up, and socialize.

Use the shelter as a daytime stop rather than an overnight campsite: overnight camping is discouraged/not permitted, and the shelters operate with an open-door, first-come community ethic. Firewood is supplied by volunteers only once at the start of the winter season, so plan to conserve it and bring the rest of what you need for your outing.
