Taipo Hut
Taipo Hut is a standard 16-bunk backcountry hut in Kahurangi National Park (Nelson/Tasman), run by the Department of Conservation. Use is first come, first served—standard hut bookings aren’t required—but overnight stays require you to buy a Standard Hut Ticket and place it in the honesty box at the hut.
It sleeps 16 people and has drinking water described as untreated, plus toilets with pit latrine disposal. The hut includes mattresses and a fireplace; for planning, be ready for an advanced-to-expert style approach, with the suggested track taking about 4–6 days one way to reach the hut.
