Alpine hutThe Falcons Nest is a private backcountry hut on Glenmore Station in the Tin Hut Stream area near Lake Tekapo, used as a warm base for ski touring and overnight alpine trips. It’s set in the upper reaches of Tin Hut Stream, accessed via the Tin Hut valley approach and then an uphill climb from Tin Hut to the hut.
The hut sleeps 8 people in bunks and is set up for self-catered evenings: a fully equipped kitchen area with gas cooking, plus a wood-fired/log burner for warmth and drying. Sleeping bags are stocked for each bunk, and lighting is solar-powered; there’s no shower, with a traditional long-drop toilet instead.
