The Laboratory
The Laboratory is a small east-facing crag in Squamish’s Crumpit Woods, positioned above The Courtyard on Powerhouse Springs Road and above The Playground. Its compact wall offers steep, vertical, and gently overhanging climbing, with views toward Mount Habrich and the Fluffy Kitten Wall zone.
The area has eight listed lines: seven sport routes and one trad route, ranging from 5.8 to 5.13a. Schrödinger’s Jug is a 25 m 5.8 warm-up, while the harder rack includes Uncertainty Principle at 5.12a, Occam’s Razor at 5.12c, and The Scientist at 5.13a. The wall also includes a standout finger crack and potential for very hard projects, including the 5.14d/15a Dark Matter.
The east aspect makes The Laboratory useful for early-season mornings and for summer afternoons or evenings; it is also suited to hot-weather climbing. The steep, exposed wall dries quickly, and two 22 m sport projects—Black Wave Project and Leaning Crack Project—are part of the current route mix.
