The Longhouse - Casino

Loading map…

The Casino is a named section of the Long House climbing area near Squamish, with predominantly single-pitch traditional crack climbing. Expect steep granite walls, splitter cracks, and burly, adventure-oriented movement on a shady north- and west-facing outcrop.

Approach via the Shannon Creek FSR: the Long House cliffs are reached after roughly 10–15 minutes on foot from the road, with The Casino about two minutes beyond the Stratosphere section. A high-clearance 4WD vehicle is generally required for the Mamquam and Shannon Creek FSR drive.

The Casino’s listed routes include Long-Gauley (5.10+), Chink in the Barrel (5.10+), Firewater (5.9), The Stein Line (5.10+), and Hunter-Gatherer (5.10b), all traditional climbs. Hunter-Gatherer is 14 m long and follows a left-leaning corner splitter that begins wide before narrowing.

The Long House was discovered in May 2012 and developed during the summer by Josh Lavigne, Paul McSorely, Colin Moorhead, Lydia Marmot, Mandoline Masse-Clark, Hazel Findlay, and Charlie Long. The area’s stated ethic avoids protection bolts on the walls, apart from two-bolt lowering anchors on some routes.

Loose rock and overhead hazards remain possible at this developing cliff, including unstable trees. The approach and climbing style call for careful rope and gear management, with helmets a sensible choice.
