The Soul Asylum

Loading map…

The Soul Asylum is a southeast-facing trad climbing crag in the Valley of Shaddai, beside Avalon and Donny’s Wall. The wall receives filtered to full sun into the early afternoon, while shade remains at the base of many routes; its steep profile and exposure help it dry quickly after rain.

Most climbs are primarily traditionally protected. A standard double rack up to 3.5 inches, with an additional 4-inch cam, is sufficient for most lines; individual routes call out any extra protection requirements.

The crag can be reached by two approaches. From Britannia Beach, allow about 40 minutes and park at the first switchback on Goat Ridge Drive, where the cul-de-sac accommodates three or four cars parked straight in on the right. Do not park by the gate, along the gated road to Copper Ridge Conference Center, or at the conference center. From the alternate parking area, walk roughly 200 metres up the gated road to the pedestrian crossing sign, then take the trail on the right.
