The Substation

The Substation is a compact sport-climbing cliff in Cheakamus Canyon, north of Squamish, with steep, powerful routes. Development began in 2015 and the cliff was established as a new area in 2016; the documented selection ranges from 5.10 to 5.13, including the 5.13a test piece Incandescence.

Access starts at the entrance to the Conroy Creek Service Road. Park by the yellow gate without crossing Highway 99, then walk roughly two minutes up the dirt road; the cliff is on the right. The east-facing wall gets sun until noon and shade afterward, while the steeper lines generally remain climbable in rain apart from some finishing holds.

Crosstalk is a short five-bolt 5.12b route with sustained interest. Inductance is a 9 m, five-bolt 5.10b, while Incandescence is also 9 m long with five bolts.
