Top Forks Hut
Top Forks Hut is a serviced 16-bunk hut in Mount Aspiring National Park in the Otago region, run by the Department of Conservation for trampers in the Wanaka/Makarora area. It has basic hut facilities, a wood burner (with a fireplace), and toilets with pit latrine disposal. The hut is set up for sleeping without mattresses (bring your own sleep system).
Use is first come, first served with no bookings required for stays. Fees apply: $25 per night for adults (18+), $12.50 per night for children/youth (5–17), and infants (0–4) are free. You need a Serviced Hut Ticket (green) or a Serviced Youth Hut Ticket (red) for each night’s stay, or a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Serviced and Standard huts for 12 months. Bring a sleeping bag, stove and fuel, pots/pans and utensils, toilet paper, a rubbish bag to pack out all rubbish (including food scraps), and newspaper/fire starter and matches/lighter for the wood burner; also bring a torch.
