Top Timaru Hut

Top Tīmaru Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Hāwea Conservation Park (Otago), managed by the Department of Conservation. It sits on the Te Araroa Trail in the Wānaka/Makarora area and is first come, first served, with the hut being busy during summer.

Use is supported by DOC Standard Hut Tickets: buy 1 Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12 month period). Fees are listed on the hut’s DOC page, and bookings aren’t required. The hut has mattresses and toilets with pit latrine disposal; drinking water is not provided.
