Upper Caples Hut

Upper Caples Hut is a backcountry hut managed by the Southern Lakes New Zealand Deerstalkers Association in New Zealand’s Caples/Greenstone area. The hut sleeps 12 people and sits at about 460 m elevation.

The hut is private/locked and no reservation is required. It has running water inside (a winter shutoff to prevent freezing is used), LED solar-powered lighting, a wood/coal stove, and gas cookers (LPG bottles). Cooking and supplies are supported with a kitchen bench, tables, wood storage, a meat safe, and a gun cabinet (bring your own padlock). There are two drop toilets located away from the building behind the wood store, and there’s no shower provided.
