Ant Stream Hut
Ant Stream Hut is a basic two-bunk backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in the Lochinvar Forest Conservation Area (North Canterbury / Arthur’s Pass region). Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served. There is a pit latrine, and a fireplace is provided.
Plan on self-navigation: there is no DOC track access to the hut, so you’ll need map, compass, and GPS skills to reach it. If you might be crossing unbridged rivers or side streams, treat river levels as a key constraint—turn back or wait if you can’t find safe entry and exit points or if flows are too high.
