Back Basin Hide
Back Basin Hide is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Craigieburn Forest Park (Canterbury). It’s a basic two-bunk hut with free use on a first-come, first-served basis (no bookings required), and it’s intended for self-navigated access—there is no DOC track route to the hut.
The hut sleeps up to 2. Facilities include an outhouse with pit latrine disposal; there is no mattress and no fireplace provided, so bring your own bedding and cooking/fire setup if you need it. Drinking water is available only as untreated water, and DOC specifically advises planning navigation yourself using map, compass, and GPS.
