Basins Hut
Basins Hut is a Department of Conservation standard six-bunk backcountry hut in Craigieburn Forest Park (North Canterbury / Arthur’s Pass area). It’s a first-come, first-served hut—no standard bookings required—so plan to arrive with enough time to claim a bunk when demand is high.
The hut is set up with mattresses and a fireplace, and it has toilets using a pit latrine disposal method. Use includes DOC hut ticketing: you need a Standard Hut Ticket for each night in the honesty box (or a Backcountry Hut Pass that covers unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for 12 months). Fees listed on the official hut page run up to 30 June 2026; after 1 July 2026, updated rates apply.
