Bealey Hut
Bealey Hut is a basic six-bunk backcountry hut in Craigieburn Forest Park (Canterbury), managed by the Department of Conservation. Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served. The hut sits at about 710 m elevation and has a pit latrine.
Inside there’s mattress bedding (bring your own sleeping setup as needed) and no fireplace. Drinking water is untreated, so treat it before use. Te Araroa Trail walkers are expected to register and buy the Te Araroa Trail Pass; the hut is also part of Te Araroa’s route network, with typical hut-to-hut access taking around 2–3 days from the nearby trail connections.
