Begley Hut

Begley Hut is a standard 8-bunk backcountry hut in the Upper Wairau River area of the Nelson Lakes region, managed by the Department of Conservation. Use is first come, first served and bookings aren’t required; you sleep in bunks (mattresses provided) and there’s a fireplace and toilets on site (pit latrine).

Hut tickets are required: buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night’s stay and place it in the honesty box at the hut. Adult (18+ years) fees are $10 per night and youth (5–17 years) fees are $5 per night (child/infant 0–4 years are free). Fees are set to change from 1 July 2026; bring water planning because drinking water isn’t provided.
