Benmore Hut
Benmore Hut is a basic three-bunk backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation in Korowai/Torlesse Tussocklands Park (North Canterbury and the Arthur’s Pass area). It’s free to use and works on a first-come, first-served basis—no bookings are required.
The hut has a mattress and a fireplace, and it provides drinking water that is untreated. Toilets are pit latrines. Access is via Benmore Station; a marked route starts from the car park and pedestrian access continues to the bush edge, with vehicle access stopping at the first carpark and gate. Dogs are not allowed on the easement, and the Benmore Station access easement through 13 Mile Bush is closed in June and July.
