Butternut Cabin

Butternut Cabin is a small Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) members-only wilderness hut on the PATC Vining Tract in Greene County, Virginia. It sleeps up to 4 people and is built to support short hike-in stays—expect a hike-in approach rather than a drive-up cabin setup.

The cabin is built from salvaged chestnut logs and has two double-deck bunks, plus a wood stove and a kitchen area. Reservations are handled through PATC’s cabin rental system for members, and the final approach drive can be rough: the last ~0.8 miles on Goose Pond Road may be heavily eroded, so a high-clearance vehicle is recommended after heavy rains or snow.
