Pocosin Cabin

Pocosin Cabin is a primitive backcountry hut in Shenandoah National Park, run through the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club. It’s a small 1937-era rustic log cabin that sleeps up to 8 people and is geared to overnight stays with off-grid basics rather than modern amenities.

The cabin has three double-wide bunk beds and a wood stove; the setup also includes an outdoor fireplace. Use is for a locked, primitive cabin experience—plan on bringing your own water, trash bags, light sources, and toilet paper.

Reservations are handled through the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club’s cabin reservation system, and an advance reservation plus key pickup is required before your trip. The cabin is accessed from Skyline Drive at milepost 59.5 with a short hike from the parking area; if Skyline Drive is closed seasonally, the approach becomes longer.

Typical pricing is generally in the $40–$50 per night range (plus any Shenandoah National Park entry fees), with a strict maximum capacity of 8 persons.
