Cattle Creek Hut

Cattle Creek Hut is a standard eight-bunk backcountry hut in Ruahine Forest Park (Manawatū-Whanganui). It sits on a flat clearing and is prone to strong winds and high rainfall; the original Forest Service hut dates from the late 1960s.

Use is first-come, first-served. Buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass where accepted) and place it in the hut honesty box on arrival. Fees to 30 June 2026 are $10 per night for adults (18+) and $5 per night for youth (5–17), with children/infants (0–4) free.

Inside, expect a hut with mattresses and non-flush toilets, plus a water supply. The DOC hut site also highlights that you should review current track alerts and conditions before heading out.

Access is via Tamaki West Road through Stanfield Hut; the track route to Cattle Creek Hut from Stanfield Hut is around a 2-hour walk.
