Central Te Hoe Hut

Central Te Hoe Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park, in the East Coast region. It sits in a clearing beside Te Hoe Stream and is considered the most remote hut in the Whirinaki, with typical access via a swing bridge to reach the hut site.

The hut accommodates up to 15 people with 15 bunk beds, and standard bookings aren’t required—stays are first come, first served. Fees apply, and you’ll need a Standard Hut Ticket for each night (placed in the honesty box at the hut); an alternative is a Backcountry Hut Pass that covers unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for 12 months. Facilities include a fireplace and mattresses; there is no drinking water and no toilets.
