Rogers Hut (Te Wairoa)

Rogers Hut (Te Wairoa) is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in the Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park (East Coast region). It was built for deer cullers in 1952 and is one of only three remaining slab-beech huts in the Urewera Range, near the border of Te Urewera. The hut provides standard six-bunk accommodation, and it’s used as a first-come, first-served option (no standard bookings required).

The hut sleeps up to six people and has untreated drinking water, a fireplace, and mattresses. Toilets are provided as a pit latrine. Fees apply: adult (18+) $10 per night and youth (5–17) $5 per night (0–4 free). To stay, you buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut. Built structure dates and hut booking/fee details are set out on the Department of Conservation page for Rogers Hut (Te Wairoa).
