Chancellor Hut
Chancellor Hut is a backcountry hut in Westland Tai Poutini National Park on the Southwest face of Chancellor Ridge, sitting about 200 m above Fox Glacier. It’s the oldest alpine hut still on its original site, and it played an early role in mountaineering, ski mountaineering, and tramping in the Westland National Park era.
The hut is run by the Department of Conservation. It has 12 bunk beds and is first come, first served (no serviced alpine bookings required). Fees are Adult (18+): $25 per night; Youth (11–17): $12.50 per night. Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets can’t be used here.
Inside, there are cooking benches in the main room and an internal door to the bunk room. Drinking water is untreated, and there’s a pit latrine toilet. No fireplace is provided.
